About James Gulliver Hancock

James Hancock was born in Sydney to a dairy farming psychologist mother, and a lawyer father with convict roots – he says his parents had good arguments. As a child he sought out books with cross sections of the insides of ships and machines, that explained the way things worked. He loved depictions of machines and systems, with little details everywhere.

He has worked with musicians Josh Pyke, Darren Hanlon and Decoder Ring. Other clients include RipCurl, AMP, Island Records, Herman Miller, Sony/BMG, Ivy League Records, The Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Sydney Opera House.

Currently working between Sydney and Los Angeles, James is an artist that crosses as many mediums as he does borders. Living out his middle namesake James has been involved in projects and residencies in Indonesia, Austria, France, the U.K. and America.
