After what feels like ten years of summer hibernation, Lamington Drive is limbering up for a cracker of show. Opening this Thursday February 23, the Drive’s first exhibition for 2012 is Christopher Nielsen’s Slax Appeal. We’ve had a sneak peek at the work and it’s very slaxy. Touching on Chris' love of bespoke signage and vintage advertising characters, Slax Appeal revels in misunderstandings, low budgets, malapropisms, impenetrable ad lingo and the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi. If that sentence hasn’t got you hooked, you’re sure to be won over by the fact that all the work has been painted directly onto cut ply-wood. Now that’s what we call authentic. If you’re uncool and can’t make it to the opening on Thursday February 23, be sure to come down to check out the show between February 24 and April 7. Peace.
