Timba Smits and Marc Martin!
Timba is a talented chap with a memorable name. You might already have heard it around in a sentence containing Wooden Toy Quarterly (he’s the creative brain behind it), Lyrics and Type (he started it) or Gorker Gallery (he was co-founder and art director). Big on typography, subtle textures, and grainy overtones, Timba’s illustration tends towards the retro, nostalgic and completely incredible.
Then there’s Mr Martin, a worldly illustrator who has recently returned to Melbourne after travelling the high seas. Small and Quiet is what he goes by, and this is the timbre of his illustration. Understated, intricate scenes executed with painstaking detail, layered colour-blocking that explores texture and depth, abstract impressions, even type! A man of many talents.
Cast your eyeballs over the work of these two fine gentlemen when you’re thinking about your next project.
