The illustration duo, Ingela och Vi, started in January 2004 when Elisabeth Månsson (illustrator and graphic designer) and Peter Turkalj (photographer) first conceived of the idea of creating three-dimensional illustrations by combining illustration and photography. Elisabeth had just finished 5 years of studying visual communications at Denmark’s Design School in Copenhagen and Peter was an assisting photographer working freelance. Early in her career, Elisabeth had been working on combining 3D techniques with two-dimensional objects, but then she began working with Peter and they realized that together it was possible to take their work to a whole new level. Since then they have been creating wildly original and intriguing work that has become their trademark style.
Their illustration work has gained much applause, and they have won awards in Sweden including the award for Best Commercial Illustration in 2006 at the yearly Swedish illustration competition, Kolla! The graphic design magazine, CAP&Design pronounced them the future of Swedish illustration and design. Their influences range from early Walt Disney films to Chinese Shadow play and origami, and they take much inspiration from classic cinema and their favorite bands.
Their clients include Elle Sweden, Residence interior magazine, Die Welt, Venue magazine, NK Department Stores, McDonald’s (Sweden), Stranger magazine, WAD, Vogue Nippon, Bea Szenfeld Fashion Team, Spendrups Brewery and Monsa Publishing.
Their work has been exhibited in Europe and Japan.
Ingela och Vi are currently based in Stockholm.
