Asher McShane is a multi-disciplinary artist working between painting, illustration, animation, music, writing and design. Born in Bundjalung / Gold Coast; Asher now works, lives, and learns in Naarm / Melbourne. His range of practices feed into one another — often combining and influencing the different works. Songs and stories based on paintings, animations based on songs and illustrations based on writing. His animations have been seen on Adult Swim, Stan and ABC.

Once you get me started, I won’t shut up about…

The stars, the zodiac circle that surrounds us – movie stars and rock stars. I love fun facts and tidbits about rock stars, movies and art. I'm obsessed with my craft and the long history of artists before me.

My dream project would be...

To write & illustrate a book, or to direct & write my own cartoon series.

I love collaborating with...

Musicians, filmmakers and artists. I'd love to work with more people in the fashion industry, likeminded people who can help push a project to new heights.

I find a project rewarding when...

It's out in the open (digitally or physically), printed on a menu/t-shirt or live on instagram. To touch and interact with the outcome is one of the most rewarding parts of the job, to wear the artwork.

The project I’ve been most inspired by recently is…

An upcoming music video project. The song from this particular artist has really inspired me, visualising music is one of my favourite things – and when the music's tight, everything's alright.

For inspiration, I look to...

All kinds of places, within my record collection – the album artwork of the 50s/60s/70s – or to my bookcase; a collection of art books and novels. My frequent "Dali Tarot" card reading provides a surrealistic start.
