Widely used as a photo-retouching tool in mid-20thcentury advertising, with a resurgence in 1940’sfilm posters, and 60’s Rock ‘n’ Roll imagery, we’veseen a huge rise in the popularity of a modernairbrush illustration style in recent years.Harking back to the golden-age of film andadvertising, the hypereal airbrush approach isparticularly delectable when used to render foodand drink in rich colourways but also pairs wellwith surrealist compositions, with lots of currentartists using an airbrush approach to create workwith a psychedelic twist. While this style has made significant waves withinthe music industry, within editorials and across afew major commercial campaigns, we expect thatthere is more to come - particularly as artists applythis approach to more abstract compositions andintegrate motion.
