James Jirat Patradoon is an internationally exhibiting artist whose illustrative style takes influence from comic books and Japanese anime of the 1990s, and draws upon imagery from drag, high fashion, kink, tattooing and the occult.

His neon gothic paradise of pop horror is conveyed across mediums of painting, drawing, screen-printing, murals, animated gifs, tattooing, and sculpture. His works are an exploration of Camp, and play with the contradictions of performative hyper-sexualised gender, East and West, the familiar and the Other.

Once you get me started, I wonā€™t shut up aboutā€¦
Cryptids! Like the Jersey Devil, Spring-Heeled Jack, the Mothman etc. Did you know Napoleon Bonaparteā€™s brother once saw the Jersey Devil in upstate New York and managed to fire a musket at it? Donā€™t get me started..
My project Iā€™m proudest of to-date isā€¦
My solo exhibition INFERNO in Los Angeles at Superchief Gallery. It was conceived and created during a sabbatical period in Bangkok, I painted the biggest paintings Iā€™ve ever made in the smallest apartment I had ever lived in, and showed it as a giant immersive exhibition.
My favourite clients are those whoā€¦
Can look at my style and see it being applied different kinds of projects and subject matter that it wouldnā€™t normally be applied to to create something really unique . I love that approach of remixing and combining contrasting ideas!
Iā€™d describe my style asā€¦
ā€œLuxury Horror, Camp Noir, Neon Gothā€ have all been audacious ways Iā€™ve described my work to strangers Iā€™ve just met.
For inspiration, I look toā€¦
Image aggregating and image hoarding essentially. At several points in the day every single day Iā€™m compulsively hoarding images and saving them and Iā€™ll often just look through all these folders of disparate gems and find ways to connect them to create something new.
I do my best work whenā€¦
I discover and binge a new true-crime podcast and keep that spontaneous right-side of my brain occupied like a toddler on an iPad, so I can focus on drawing undisturbed and enter a flow state.
